In a statement shared on X, Effiong revealed that his law firm handled Jude Okoye's legal defence at the early stage of the case and successfully secured his bail at both the Federal High Court and the Lagos State High Court.
According to him, another Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) later took over the case.
Effiong stressed that bail conditions should not be interpreted as proof of guilt, noting that Jude has not been convicted of any offence by any court.
"Jude hasn't been convicted of any crime by any court of law. We should afford him his constitutional right to presumption of innocence."
He also questioned Peter Okoye's decision to continue discussing the matter publicly while the cases are still before the courts.
"It is baffling that Peter, who is the nominal complainant in the two cases, has resorted to social media trial while the cases are pending before courts of competent jurisdiction."
The lawyer further claimed that Peter's public statements contradict what he has allegedly admitted during cross-examination in court.
"I am not sure why he is doing this at this time. What he is saying online differs from the verifiable admissions he has been making under cross examination in court. He knows exactly what he is doing."
Effiong concluded by urging Peter to focus on the legal proceedings rather than trying the case in the court of public opinion.
"He should focus his energy on testifying in court to support the charges against Jude, instead of resorting to media trial. The cases are in court, we should let the court decide the guilt or innocence of the defendant."
